FPU President Pete Menjares and his wife, Virginia, met some of the neighbors at an event sponsored by City Councilman Sal Quintero.

More than 100 people attended the August 21 reception at the Mosqueda Community Center, around the corner on Butler Avenue from the main Fresno Pacific University campus at 1717 S. Chestnut. Speakers included Quintero, who represents Fresno City Council District 5, of which the main campus is a part; Blong Xiong, councilmember for District 1; and Luis Santana, executive director of Reading and Beyond, a non-profit organization that provides literacy and other services.

Also present were Larry Powell, superintendent of Fresno County Schools, and other education, business and community leaders, many from Southeast Fresno.
