Richard Wiebe, M.A., associate professor of philosophy, was appointed research associate in Navajo culture and philosophy at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, on November 30, 2013, by Robert Breunig, museum director. Wiebe has been researching the Navajo there since 1998 and has twice given the keynote address at the annual summer Navajo Arts Festival. Wiebe spends every June at the museum doing research and is currently working on the Navajo view of the land (Dine Bikeyah) in relation to their creation narrative (Dine Bahane).

Wiebe also recently completed 20 years as a citizen volunteer on the YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) Authority Advisory Committee. Superintendent Don Neubacher wrote: “We have greatly appreciated your dedicated service to both Yosemite National Park and the YARTS Authority…you have been a steadfast, dependable participant whose views and recommendations have provided for long term environmental and public benefit.” YARTS now has a ridership of over 100,000 per year.
