Candlelight Concert features the classic and the cozy

A classic story told in a cozy setting—that's what's in store at the Fresno Pacific University Candlelight Concert.

The event begins at 7 p.m. October 5 in Ashley Auditorium on the campus. Seated at tables cabaret style, guests may sip beverages and sup on desserts, including Napoleons, as they hear performances by music faculty Deborah Sauer-Ferrand, Roy Klassen, Arlene Steffen and Larry Warkentin.

The featured work will be The Story of Babar the Little Elephant. Klassen will narrate Jean de Brunhoff's French children's story while Warkentin plays Francis Poulenc's illustrative music.

Steffen will join Warkentin for three works written for two pianos: the final movement of Darius Milhaud's "Scaramouche," Poulenc's "Sonata for two pianos" and Warkentin's "Rhondo." Sauer-Ferrand will sing a set of songs by 20thcentury English composer Rebecca Clark.

Warkentin (piano) has been on the university faculty since 1966 and Klassen (bass-baritone) in 1977. Sauer-Ferrand (mezzo-soprano) joined the department in 1992 and Steffen (piano) has been involved since 1997.

Reservations are required and may be made by calling the Music Office at 453-2267. Admission is $5 per person, payable in advance or at the door.
