Follow-up statement to incident at Fresno Pacific University swimming pool

All swimmers affected by the chlorine leak on January 9, 2018, were medically cleared by the hospitals they were transported to and were released by 8:00 p.m. that day. The pool will be closed until FPU administration and the Fresno County Health Department conduct an investigation and deem it safe.

The incident began at the FPU swimming pool at around 1:40 p.m., when an extra amount of chlorine was accidentally released into the water. Members of the swim team, which was practicing at the time, sustained minor injuries. Thirteen students went to the hospital by ambulance and two refused further treatment. Parents were contacted and school officials went to each hospital. The pool is located on the main campus, 1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Fresno.
