For the fourth year in a row, FPU student journalists won awards at the annual California College Media Association (CCMA) banquet held February 29, 2020, in San Francisco,

The Syrinx student newspaper received second place for both Best Newspaper Inside Page/Spread Design and for Best Non-Breaking News Story in the B Division, comprised of four-year schools with under 10,000 students. 

The CCMA banquet is in conjunction with the Associated Collegiate Press (ACP) Annual Midwinter National Journalism Conference February 27-March 1, held jointly with College Media Business and Advertising Managers (CMBAM). Nine students attended along with faculty advisor Leann Lo, assistant professor of communication.

The ACP/CMBAM convention offered sessions with media and advertising professionals, including journalists from the Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. Students attended panels on reporting, social media, data journalism, integrated student media, business management, photojournalism, design, leadership and other topics.
