Fernando Enns is the guest speaker. A native of Brazil, Enns is director of the Center for Theology of Peace Churches at the University of Hamburg and professor of theology and ethics at the Free University of Amsterdam. Among his books are The Peace Church and the Ecumenical Community: Ecclesiology and the Ethics of Nonviolence (2008) and Seeking Cultures of Peace: A Peace Church Conversation (co-editor, 2004).
Enns was the prime mover of the Decade to Overcome Violence (1991-2011) initiative of the World Council of Churches. He earned a doctorate of theology from the University of Heidelberg.
Events include "Just Peace: A New Framework for an Ecumenical Social Ethic" at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Special Events Center; a dessert reception at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, in the BC Lounge; and "God's Justice and Human Justice" at 7:30 p.m. March 22 in the Seminary Chapel. All locations are on the main FPU campus south of the intersection of Chestnut and Butler in Fresno, and are free to the public.
The Believers Church Lecture Series, sponsored by the Center for Mennonite Brethren Studies at FPU, explores the relevance of the Believers Church tradition to contemporary Christian thought and life.
