Journey with a small group of people led and guided by Jesus Christ as day by day they tell parables through games, storytelling and hefty doses of comedy in “Godspell,” the Fresno Pacific University musical. The songs are as eclectic as the characters, as styles ranging from pop to vaudeville illustrate story of Jesus’ life and the community of disciples he built to carry on his work.

Performances start at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 13-15, and Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 19-22. There will be a 2:00 p.m. matinee Sunday, April 16. The production will be in the Lin Family Performance Studio in the Warkentine Culture and Arts Center on the main FPU campus, 1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Fresno.
The FPU production is directed by Brandi Martin, MFA, theater program director, with Maria Coon as assistant director. The production features new music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The classic musical was conceived and originally directed by John-Michael Tebelak and produced on the New York stage by Edgar Lansbury, Stuart Duncan and Joseph Beruh.
The cast will be Alexander Lujan (understudy Jeremy Salas) as John the Baptist/Judas and Jeff Jones (understudy Izaiah Ruiz) as Jesus. Other roles will be played by Kristina Clark, Stephanie Gonzales, Alex Hodson, Jeff Jones, Lindsay Martin, Cady Mejias, Sabelo Mlaba, B.K. Robinson, Izaiah Ruiz, Jeremy Salas, Cameron Ward and Magdalena Wenger.
