Assistant Professor of Social Work Saul Salinas, Ph.D. (pictured center, with special guest), social work students and family provided more than 75 Easter baskets to students in Delft Colony on April 11, 2025. Each Delft student from Dinuba Unified School District received a candy bag and a custom-made Easter basket called “Easter Basket Blessings” since all items were donated. Salinas hung a “He is Risen” banner so students and the community could understand the true reason for Easter.

Salinas and three MSW students were on the FPU website and in Sunbird Spotlight when they facilitated a Christmas toy giveaway last December. Salinas has had numerous events throughout the year since Delft Colony was the focus of his doctoral dissertation, “We are the Counternarrative: A Narrative Inquiry into the Lives of Mexican American University Graduates.” The work focuses on the strengths and assets that contribute to dozens of students from this community earning bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree.
