An educator with a vision for wisdom has been appointed vice president of student life at Fresno Pacific University. Dale Scully will start July 1, 2018.

Scully comes to FPU from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA, where he has been vice president for student affairs since 2012. Prior positions include associate dean/athletics director at Uganda Christian University, associate dean of students at Toccoa Falls College and director of residence life at The King’s College, New York. Uganda Christian, Toccoa Falls and Kings are all associated with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, of which FPU is a member.

Education is more than the accumulation of facts and figures, according to Scully. “I genuinely value the concept of wisdom development through education,” he said. “Knowledge, void of character, integrity and the ability to use it for common good, is simply the accumulated mass of acquired information. The combination of truth and knowledge, life experiences, plus the ability to know how to use it to serve others and glorify God is where true wisdom comes in.”

Reporting to the president of FPU, the vice president of student life leads the Student Life Division, student development programs and the coordination of co-curricular education to help students develop personally and integrate faith and learning in all areas of life. The Student Life Division works with the dean of spiritual formation and diversity as well as the athletics director to promote the holistic education of students. Areas within the Student Life Division include career services, international programs and services, student activities and residence life.

Scully earned a Master of Arts in Student Personnel Administration from the Teacher’s College of Columbia University. He also has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Western Washington University and an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Yakima Valley Community College.

“We want to express appreciation to the members of the search committee, chaired by Pam Schock, assistant dean of student development and residence life, for their tenacious efforts in submitting finalist in this search process,” said Joseph Jones, Ph.D., president of FPU.
