New undergraduate students at Fresno Pacific University will get their first—and most important—book free starting in Fall 2025. That book will be the Bible.
Students enrolling for the first time in traditional undergrad programs and bachelor’s degree completion programs will each receive a New International Version (NIV) study Bible as a gift from the university. This means students just out of high school as well as working adults balancing study with professional and family responsibilities will all be able to immediately benefit from the word of God.
“The Bible will be a gift to support and inspire them throughout their FPU journey and beyond,” said André Stephens, Ph.D., president of FPU. “Whether they’re deepening their faith, asking big questions or seeking hope in the challenges of life, we anticipate and pray that the Bible will be a meaningful companion in their lives.”
Each 2,460-page volume contains the full text of the Bible, along with a library of features to help the readers grasp, understand and apply the text. Notes introduce and explain a variety of background information, providing deeper insights. Other features include over 21,000 study notes, 14 full-page color maps, book introductions, center-column cross references, an index to the notes and a concordance. Most of the team of scholars who wrote and edited notes for this study Bible served on the NIV translation team.
Funds for the project have been made possible through the generosity of donors. These Bibles (valued at $50 each) will be a foundational resource for students as they begin their time at FPU. “As we guide students in their academic and personal growth, we also want to equip them spiritually, reminding them that they are never alone on their journey,” Stephens said.
A bookmark containing a verse and a message from President Stephens will be included with each Bible. The message is:
“At Fresno Pacific University, we believe in nurturing both the mind and the spirit. As you begin your time at FPU, we want to equip you not only with knowledge but also with encouragement, wisdom and a strong foundation for growth in faith and purpose. I hope this Bible will support and inspire you throughout your FPU journey and beyond. Whether you’re deepening your faith, exploring new questions or simply seeking guidance, may this Bible be a meaningful companion.
“I and others have been praying for you. Before we knew your name, we prayed for you. I look forward to meeting you as you begin your journey with us. I am so grateful you are a member of the FPU community!”
The verse is 2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
