Ewert evokes the Fresno Pacific Idea to open the school year

Christ is still the foundation and the Fresno Pacific Idea is still the blueprint for Fresno Pacific University, President D. Merrill Ewert told students, faculty and staff during the President's Convocation September 3. The Scripture reading from I Corinthians Chapter 3 included the passage, "For no other foundation can any one lay but that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ." The Fresno Pacific Idea calls the university to be Christian, a community of learners and prophetic. To be Christian, Ewert said, means "we affirm learning comes from God." As a community of learners, "a place like FPU invites divergent ideas because that's how our ideas are tested," he said. "Being a community holds us accountable." Today's world adrift needs someone to be prophetic and offer solutions. "Society is searching for the answers to problems," he said. These are the challenge FPU embraces. "Living the idea means excellence. Living the idea means making a difference," Ewert said.
