Fresno Pacific University is reaching out to former ITT students.
FPU will consider accepting additional transfer units from ITT, waive the FPU application fee and work with students’ financial aid to help them meet their educational goals. “We want to step up and assist these students who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in a very difficult situation,” said Jon Endicott, vice president of enrollment management. “We have the academic offerings, for nontraditional as well as traditional students, locations and personal support to get these students back on track to complete their degrees.”
Nearly 3,600 students attend FPU, on the main campus in southeast Fresno or at regional campuses in North Fresno, Visalia, Bakersfield and Merced as well as online. Students in bachelor’s degree completion courses meet one night a week. Those pursuing traditional B.A. and B.S. programs and master’s degrees have classes in the evening or during the day, depending on their program. The new computer information systems degree is coming to Fresno’s downtown Bitwise South Stadium in January.
With the highest four-year graduation rate of any Central Valley college or university, FPU is a Hispanic Serving Institution and is one of the top 10 HSIs nationally in graduating Hispanic students. The Valley’s only comprehensive Christian university granting master’s degrees, the university is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and ranked in the top tier among western universities—master’s category by U.S. News & World Report.
ITT Educational Services, the parent company and one of the nation’s largest for-profit education chains, announced September 6 it was closing all of its more than 130 campuses in 38 states, including 15 in California. In 2015-2016 the company, often known as a ITT Technical Institute, reported an enrollment of 45,000 students. The shutdown came after the U.S. Department of Education banned ITT from enrolling students who use federal financial aid. The State of California had also had ordered the company not to accept students.
