Believers Church Lectures explore the Holy Spirit hosted by Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary

“The Holy Spirit and the Church” is the name of the Believers Church Lectures October 1-2, 2019, hosted by Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary.

A.J. Swoboda, Ph.D., will give several talks on aspects of the Holy Spirit at Butler Church, 4884 E Butler Ave., Fresno. Swoboda is a Foursquare pastor, professor and author. His most recent book, Subversive Sabbath: The Surprising Power of Rest in a Nonstop World, won the Christianity Today 2019 Book Award.

Presentations are:

  • “Distracted: The Holy Spirit and Paying Attention,” at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1.
  • Missiology Forum—"Disillusioned: The Spirit’s Mission Toward Those Walking Away from the Faith,” at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 1
  • Presidential Breakfast for Valley Pastors and Leaders: “And Peter Stood Up: The Spirit in Pastoral Work,” at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 2
  • College Hour—“The God Who Hovers: The Holy Spirit, Vocation and Calling”

Swoboda is assistant professor of biblical studies and world Christianity at Northwest Christian University and leads the Holy Spirit Leadership & Ministry cohort in the Doctor of Ministry program at Fuller Seminary. His Ph.D. is from the University of Birmingham.

The Believers Church Lecture Series explores the relevance of the Believers Church tradition in contemporary Christian life, and is supported by an endowment established by the late Dr. Herbert and Jessica Penner of Bakersfield, CA. The Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary is part of Fresno Pacific University.
