Joseph Jones and his wife Yvette felt at home right away at Fresno Pacific University.

“We saw the sign in McDonald Hall: ‘With God all things are possible,’” FPU President Joseph Jones told students, faculty and staff during the Fall Convocation September 13, 2017. “Yvette and I have always been people of possibilities.”

The verse on the sign, Matthew 19:26, is the FPU theme verse. “It’s all about the impossibilities of what man can do and the possibilities of what God can do,” said Jones, who began his term as 13th president July 1, 2017, and who will be inaugurated October 28, 2017. “We see that in the Fresno Pacific Idea.”

Several years ago, Jones wrote of his own calling to extend the kingdom of God in a personal mission statement. That calling led the couple to Forman Christian College in Pakistan, as well as to FPU.

As the only Christian college in Lahore, a city of 11 million people, Forman was a light in the darkness. Jones spent two years there as rector (provost) starting in 2015. In addition to being chief academic officer, his responsibilities included academic administration, marketing communications and enrollment management. Prior to FCC, Jones spent more than two decades at institutions in the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities, of which FPU is a member. An ordained, licensed minister, Jones has a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany.
