Buchanan High School’s counseling center was the setting for a celebration of a new partnership between Fresno Pacific University and Clovis Unified School District on October 13, 2026. The agreement provides eligible students with a direct pathway to FPU.
FPU President André Stephens, Ph.D., and Clovis Unified Superintendent Corrine Folmer, Ed.D., participated in a ceremonial signing of the agreement. The choice of location highlighted the important role school counselors play in helping students prepare for college and make decisions about their future. The signing celebration included remarks from President Stephens and Superintendent Folmer.
The Sunbird Flight Plan: Direct Route to Admission provides a streamlined pathway to FPU for Clovis Unified students, including guaranteed admission, opportunities for scholarships and additional support throughout the college admissions process.
"What an exciting day for our Clovis Unified graduates who are looking for high-quality options right here in our local community,” said Folmer. “This partnership with Fresno Pacific University is a big confidence builder for our students who are preparing for the college application window, and a validation of the work of our educational team to prepare our students for success after high school."
Under the agreement, Clovis Unified students are guaranteed admission to FPU if they have at least a 3.0 weighted cumulative GPA at the time of application and complete the university’s application requirements. Admission to some programs, such as nursing and social work, requires additional application and program-specific criteria.
Clovis Unified seniors who enroll directly in FPU’s traditional undergraduate program are eligible for annual academic scholarships ranging from $8,000 to $18,000, in addition to need-based aid based on FAFSA submission.
The partnership will also provide resources to students and families to help them navigate the college admissions process. FPU will provide admissions and financial aid staff at each Clovis Unified high school at least twice a semester to assist with recruitment, advising and applications. Students will also be invited to FPU Preview Days and other campus life events. Both institutions will collaborate on workshops for students and families covering topics like financial aid, application completion and career counseling.
“Every student has gifts, hopes and a future worth pursuing,” Stephens said. “Through this partnership, we want Clovis Unified students to know Fresno Pacific is within reach and that they will have guidance as they consider what comes next. We look forward to walking alongside them as they explore their options, navigate the college journey and take their next steps with confidence.”
The agreement is part of FPU’s Sunbird Flight Plan initiative, which partners with school districts to create direct pathways to Fresno Pacific for eligible high school students.
