About 75 people attended events related to the Ninth Annual Restorative Justice Conference October 25-26, organized by the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies (CPACS) at Fresno Pacific University. The conference took place at Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary.
A new activity this year was a public showing of an award-winning film on the work of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission under the leadership of Archbishop Desmond Tutu titled Long Night's Journey into Day—South Africa's Search for Truth and Reconciliation. Speakers included a keynote address by Dan Van Ness, executive director of the International Centre for Justice and Reconciliation, a program of Prison Fellowship International, Washington, D.C., titled "Building the Restorative Community—Moving Toward Wholeness." Workshops examined the use of restorative justice principles in schools, community organizations and faith-based groups.
