A film about one part of the immigrant experience so central to the building of America is coming to Fresno Pacific University.

Ellis, a short film starring Academy Award Winner Robert De Niro, will be shown at 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2015, in Room 103 of Steinert Campus Center on the main FPU campus, 1717 S. Chestnut Ave., Fresno. Admission is free and the public is invited.

Written by Academy Award winner Eric Roth and shot on location on Ellis Island, Ellis features stunning unframed photos of immigrants installed by the artist JR, who directed the film. For millions of people entering the United States in the early twentieth century, Ellis Island was the gateway to a new life. For some, however, that gate slammed shut in Ellis Island Immigrant Hospital, where the Statue of Liberty could only be seen from through the windows. (Information from Tribeca)
