Chris Brownell co-authors book to change minds about math

Christopher Brownell, Ph.D., associate professor of mathematics and STEM education and program director of mathematics education, co-authored the book Math Recess Playful Learning in an Age of Disruption with Sunril Singh, a former math and physics teacher who is now an author and speaker on the beauty of math. The book is set to come out in April, published by IMpress Publications. “Our goal in creating the book was to combat the idea that mathematics is a static and dull endeavor, and replace it with the idea that math is made by people who are playing with ideas, special relations between things, numbers, shapes and other objects,” Brownell said. “We advocate for a dramatic shift in the way math is taught to children and want to disrupt the educational applecart a little bit.” More at impressbooks.org/
