Cindy Carter publishes article on depression, antidepressants

Cindy Carter, Ph.D., associate provost, institutional effectiveness and degree completion accreditation liaison officer, published the article “Depression, Antidepressants, and Cognitions: Silent Schemas in Walking Wounded” in the Journal of Psychology & Psychotherapy. This research uncovers a subset of toxic negative automatic thoughts that persist among patients treated with antidepressants. “While the patient’s experience of these thoughts is pharmaceutically anesthetized, their communications and decisions continue to be influenced by negativity, thereby impacting their communities. The phenomenon could be compared to walking (bacterial or viral) pneumonia. The causative organisms are potentially contagious,” Carter notes.
