April 2018 Alumni Update

Alan King (MA ’14) is head coach for the track-and-field and cross-country programs at Umpqua Community College.

Gonzalo Juarez (BA ’12) will graduate in May 2018 with a Master of Public Administration degree and Certificate in Public Policy from the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California. Since beginning the program in the fall of 2016, Gonzalo has worked for a state senator, city councilmember and government relations consultant. Since moving to Sacramento he has been a policy analyst with the California Department of General Services, evaluating regulations related to educational facilities. Gonzalo says he enjoys the challenge of identifying and addressing problems with existing laws and developing public policy solutions aimed at the public good. In the spring of 2018 he led a team of five graduate students in evaluating the Sacramento Council of Governments’ organizational operations related to local government collaboration and engagement, which entailed a formal evaluation of the organization’s internal and external structures, financial resource allocation and socio-economic environment. Findings were scheduled to be presented in April.

Benny Madrigal (BA ’09) was the subject of an article in Vida en al Valle April 15 vidaenelvalle.com/opinion/article208967369.html

Thomas Nixon (CRED ’09) is an online learning and library services manager at Fresno Unified School District.
