Darren Duerksen honored with Spirit of Abraham Award

Darren Duerksen, Ph.D., associate professor of intercultural & religious studies, was given the Spirit of Abraham Award for 2020 by the Islamic Cultural Center of Fresno. The annual prize goes “to groups and/or individuals who significantly contribute towards enhancing the understanding of Islam and Muslims as well as creating more harmonious relationships between faiths.” Duerksen was honored for his work on behalf of FPU in interfaith initiatives, and is the first representative of the university to receive the award. “I feel honored that they are awarding this to me, and look forward to continuing to help FPU students build bridges of understanding and represent the love of Christ to Muslims and people of other faiths,” he said. The presentation ceremony, usually at the commencement of Ramadan (April 24, 2020, according to the ICC webpage) is being rescheduled due to Coronavirus.
