Nickson publishes article on baseball in Australia

Ray Nickson, Ph.D., assistant professor of criminal justice and criminal justice program director, has an article in the Baseball Research Journal, Spring 2018 edition, Volume 47, Number 1. The journal, published by the Society for American Baseball Research, is the leading academic, peer-reviewed journal on the history and social importance of baseball. Nickson’s article, “An epoch in Australian baseball,” analyzes the significance of Stanford University’s tour of 1928. Previously overlooked by sports historians, Nickson demonstrates how the tour greatly enhanced the profile of baseball in Australia. Last year, Nickson published an article on the 1929 baseball tour by the Multnomah Amateur Athletic Club to Australia in FPU’s Pacific Journal. These two tours were of immense importance to the development of baseball in Australia. Nickson is spending part of his summer trawling the Fresno County Public Library’s newspaper archives researching an article on the early history of professional baseball in Fresno.
