Gustavo Maya (BA ’04) was named one of 21 Charlotte W. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellows for 2017. This fellowship is the nation’s largest award for Ph.D. candidates addressing ethical and religious values in the humanities and social sciences. Maya is completing his dissertation, The Work of the People: Religion, Politics, and the Farmworker Movement, in the Princeton University Religion Department. The fellowship has gone to more than 1,200 doctoral candidates since its creation in 1981. Winners were announced May 2, 2017, by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation, which administers the fellowship. More at woodrow.org/fellowships/newcombe.
Audrey N. Hindes (SEM ’04, BA ’01) joined the pastoral team at College Community Church Mennonite Brethren, Clovis, CA, June 26, 2017. Hindes was formerly associate director of student life & academic support at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology. She earlier served for seven years as an instructor of biblical studies at FPU. Hindes is married to Brian DiPalma (BA ’06) who has a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from Emory.
Sports Illustrated on June 6 posted a profile of Ron Adams (BA ’69) former basketball player and coach at FPU who now coaches for the NBA-champion Golden State Warriors. More here
