Martens publishes articles, new edition of his book

Elmer A. Martens Ph.D., emeritus Old Testament professor and emeritus president of what is now Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary, has had several recent scholarly publications:

  • Study notes on the book of Habakkuk in the NIV Zondervan Study Bible, writing study notes on the book of Habakkuk. The 2,880-page volume, “mother of all study Bibles,” is edited by Don Carson, general editor, a professor at Trinity Evangelical School in Deerfield, IL, and was released in the summer of 2015.

  • The article “Toward an End to Violence: Hearing Jeremiah” in the book Wrestling with the Violence of God: Soundings in the Old Testament, edited by M. Daniel Carroll, R., Ph.D., Denver Seminary, and J. Blair Wilgus, Ph.D., Hope International University. The book is in the Bulletin for Biblical Research Supplement series; Martens is on the advisory board.

  • The article “Commentary Changes in Format and Focus: An Overview,” part of a book honoring John E. Hartley, professor at Azusa Pacific Seminary, titled The Genre of Biblical Commentary.

  • The fourth edition of Martens’ signature book, God’s Design. A Focus on Old Testament Theology, is in press with Wipf and Stock and will be released before the end of the year. The first edition, under the title Plot and Purpose in the Old Testament, was published in 1981.
