Dr. Ronald Toews appointed as new Principal of the Acts Seminaries of Trinity Western University

Langley, BC – Trinity Western University is pleased to announce that Ronald W. Toews has been appointed to the combined position of Principal for ACTS Seminaries and Associate Vice President of Graduate Theological Studies.

Dr. Toews brings to the position a rich background in leadership, academia and public speaking. Born in Watrous, Saskatchewan, his varied employment history in education has taken him throughout North America speaking and teaching. In 2002, Toews began working as Assistant Professor of Leadership Studies at the Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary of ACTS at Trinity Western University, where he has taught over 25 courses at the graduate level.

Trinity Western University Provost, Dr. Dennis Jameson comments, "Dr. Toews brings a wealth of leadership and consulting experience to the Graduate School of Theological Studies/ACTS during this time of transition and planning. His organizational insights will help us to build stronger University and Seminary ties and inform our progress toward the adoption of policy governance."

ACTS Seminaries has had an interesting formation. In 1985, several denominations partnered together to prepare visionary Christian leaders to effect real world change. The result was the creation of the "Associated Canadian Theological Schools" or ACTS Seminaries for short, the only seminary of its kind in North America. The six seminaries include the Canadian Baptist Seminary (CBS), Canadian Theological Seminary (CTS), Trinity Western Seminary (TWS), Northwest Baptist Seminary (NBS), Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary (MBBS), and Canadian Pentecostal Seminary (CPS).

The position of Principal is not new to the Seminary but where it fits in the organizational structure of the University is. Responsive to the ACTS Joint Governance Committee, the Principal will sit and serve as a functional member of the TWU President's Cabinet and Provost's Office Team and will facilitate the ongoing integration of the Graduate School of Theological Studies within the greater University, among other responsibilities and roles.

Says TWU President Dr. Jonathan Raymond, "The new positioning of the ACTS Principal within the University's framework is very important to the success of ACTS Seminary and to the University. We share a common vision of educating, transforming and preparing our graduates to begin to impact and change the world for the good of mankind. We are delighted to have Dr. Ronald Toews lead this very important area of our institution."
