Faculty present at Evangelical Theological Society, the American Academy of Religion and the Society of Biblical Literature

Four Biblical and Religious Studies Division faculty gave presentations at the annual meetings of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS), the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL). The ETS meeting was November 16-18, 2021, in Fort Worth, TX. The AAR/SBL sessions were November 20-23, 2021, in San Antonio, TX. Some presentations were virtual.

At ETS, Brian Schultz, Ph.D., associate professor of biblical and theological studies, presented "Composing Biblical Hebrew for Classroom Instruction: Pitfalls and Pathways."

At AAR/SBL:

  • Melanie A. Howard, Ph.D., assistant professor and program director in biblical and theological studies, presented "Memes, Music, and…Matthew?! Cultivating a Media-Rich Asynchronous Forum Environment."
  • Laura Schmidt Roberts, Ph.D., professor of biblical and theological studies, presented "Pandemic Liturgy: Implications for Mennonite Communal Identity and Ecclesiology."
  • Brian Schultz, Ph.D., associate professor of biblical and theological studies, presented "Furniture, the Outdoors, and Props: For Teaching Beginning Biblical Hebrew" and "A New Proposal for Identifying Tamar/Tadmor in 1 Kings 9:18."
  • Amy Whisenand Krall, Th.D., assistant professor of biblical and theological studies, presented "Fragments of Presence: The Contextual Witness to the Biblical Text in the Stained-Glass Windows of the St. Matthäus Gemeinde in Bremen, Germany" and "'Other-Related' Anthropology in the Letter to the Colossians."
