Dalton Riemer article examines aspect of World War I home front

Dalton Reimer, Ph.D., emeritus communication professor, published the article “German-American Immigrants Encounter World War I: A Cautionary Tale” in the fall issue of The Chronicles of Oklahoma, the quarterly journal of the Oklahoma Historical Society, released in December.

The article is an expansion of a Council of Senior Professionals presentation titled “Freedoms Assumed and Challenged: German-American Immigrants Encounter WWI (1917-18)” that Reimer and Marvin Kroeker gave February 6, 2018.

Reimer said he began the article as an exploration of his family’s history during that time and credits Kroeker with helping move the project to the next level. Today a member of the Council of Senior Professionals, Kroeker served on the Board of the Oklahoma Historical Society from 1989 to 2011, and as chair from 1996-1999.
